The National Eligibility Test (NET) is a test administered by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine whether Indian nationals are eligible for Assistant Professorships, Junior Research Fellowships, or both in Indian universities and colleges.
CBSE administered the NET in 81 topics in 91 cities across the country until June 2018. Following that, the National Testing Agency (NTA) starts to conduct the UGC-NET from December 2018 onwards.
The awarding of a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/or eligibility for an Assistant Professorship is based on the candidate's overall performance in UGC-NET Papers I and II. Candidates who merely meet the requirements for Assistant Professorship will not be considered for a JRF. The rules and regulations apply to candidates who pass the eligibility test for Assistant Professorship.
Every year, the UGC-NET is held twice. Due to COVID-19, December 2020 UGC-NET was postponed. Consequently, June 2021 UGC-NET had also been postponed. To make the UGC-NET examination cycles more consistent, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has integrated the December 2020 and June 2021 cycles, with UGC approval, so that they can be administered in CBT style concurrently. As a result, the application procedure has been reopened for new applicants to fill out and submit their forms.

The syllabus for NET/JRF is divided into two parts: Paper-1 and Paper-2.
Paper I: General Aptitude – 100 marks (common to all subjects) (50 Questions)
Paper-II: Subject of your choice – 200 marks (100 Questions)
