ABOUT CLAT

The term CLAT denotes for Common Law Admissions Test. All National Law Schools/Universities conducts an all India entrance examination for admissions to under-graduate and post graduate degree programmes (LL.B & LL.M).

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), is an all-India entrance examination, conducted on rotation by 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate degree programmes. The 22 participating NLUs in the order of their year of establishment are:

  2. NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad (NALSAR)
  3. National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU)

Eligibility for the Undergraduate Programme

There will be no upper age limit for UG Programme in CLAT 2020.

As regards minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2), the candidates must have secured:

  1. Forty five percent (45%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) and other categories, and
  2. Forty Percent (40%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) categories.

Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in 2022 are also eligible to appear in CLAT-2022 examination. However, they shall be required to produce evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.

The result of the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the Course.

In case of equal marks, the break of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under:

  1. Higher marks in the component / section on legal aptitude in the CLAT 2022 exam
  2. Higher age
  3. Computerised draw of lots

CLAT Syllabus for LLB

The pattern of Question Paper for the UG Courses in CLAT-2022 is as follows:

The Consortium of National Law Universities has announced the CLAT Syllabus 2022 on its official website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Candidates studying for CLAT UG 2022 should familiarise themselves with the CLAT Exam Syllabus in full, as it comprises all of the exam's themes. The CLAT UG Syllabus includes sections on English, Current Affairs, General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques, among others.

CLAT UG 2022 will be a 2hour exam consisting of 150 multiple-choice questions worth 1 mark each. Every incorrect answer will result in a 0.25 mark deduction. The CLAT 2022 paper is divided into five sections: English Language, Current Affairs, including GK, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. The CLAT exam will cover themes such as constitutional law, family law, tort law, and contract law, among others, and will be based on common subjects from 3-year and 5-year LLB programmes.

CLAT Syllabus for LLM

The CLAT Syllabus is divided into three sections, each comprising 150 multiple-choice questions and subjective questions. The LLM Law Entrance Test is conducted in an offline style over the course of two hours.

  1. The CLAT PG has questions ranging in difficulty from moderate to difficult.
  2. The question paper will have an equal weighting of 50 points for both constitutional law and jurisprudence. At the same time, the remaining questions cover a variety of areas such as criminal law, international law, and so on.
