In 1984, he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">He started practicing law in the Hisar district court the same year. In 1985, he relocated to Chandigarh to work at the Punjab and Haryana High Court.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">He was appointed as a Supreme Court judge in May 2019 and focused on civil law, constitutional, and service law issues. At this point, the departing CJI&#8217;s proposal for their replacement is sought by the Union Minister for Law and Justice.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\"><strong>The Seniority Rule- <\/strong>The senior most Supreme Court judge who is deemed qualified for the position is suggested for appointment in accordance with long-standing custom. Since the 1970s, this custom has been upheld to maintain consistency and steer clear of controversy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\"><strong>Fitness Evaluation &#8211; <\/strong>According to Article 124(2) of the Constitution, the incumbent Chief Justice is required to confer with other senior judges of the Supreme Court if there are concerns regarding the senior judge&#8217;s suitability to serve as Chief Justice.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The Last Appointment Process<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\"> &#8211; The Law Minister sends the suggestion to the Prime Minister after it has been made. The President of India receives advice from the Prime Minister. The official notification of appointment is issued by the President.
